Watersports
There is sailing at Castle Loch, Lochmaben, around 4 miles from Kirkwood.  The Galloway Sailing Centre at Loch Ken near Castle Douglas has sailing, wind-surfing, canoeing and rowing boats.  Water skiing at Loch Ken is also very popular.

Golf
We also have many golfing visitors.  There are some excellent courses in the area and green fees are cheap and readily available. Why not try the Dumfries and County Club, Southerness Golf Club or Thornhill Golf Club.

Seaside
The Solway Coast is just a 45 minute drive away, visitors can reach great sandy beaches at Sandyhills, Rockcliffe and Southerness. 

Gardens
Threave at Castle Douglas is among many outstanding gardens in the area open to the public.

Horse Riding
There are a few local establishments that cater for riders of all ages and abilities.  This is beautiful country for riding.  Some even offer livery.
