Due to the increase in Sea Trout numbers here on the River Annan over recent years, we have decided now is the time to have another Sea Trout School! The school in 2006 gave us the idea for our now very successful annual Salmon School, but with many people now catching sea trout again there is definitely demand for us to offer this fishing experience with all tuition, guidance, meals and accommodation included.
Early summer is, without doubt, the best time of the year for sea trout fishing on the River Annan, and we can furnish you with the fundamental skills you will need for mastering this art. Sea trout fishing is one of the most specialist types of angling. You can catch them by daylight but most are caught at night. In a good night one could catch 4 or 5 and it is the most exhilarating of sports. We have two beats which you will fish, Kirkwood and Jardine Hall. On each beat you will be accompanied by an experienced angler with qualified instructors for casting tuition. You will mainly fish hard and learn by experience but there will be talks and tuition sessions as well. Learn the arts of darkness: how to fish wet fly, dry fly, sunk lure, surface lure and when to use them. You will spot fish and reconnoitre the river during the day, and (on the 4 day school) tie the flies that work.
Based at Kirkwood, your accommodation will be in one of our holiday cottages situated in the Stables Courtyard. You will have your own bedroom but will share a cottage with a fellow student. Your meals (brunch and evening meals) are included in the price, as is the fishing, accommodation, guidance and tuition. The 4 day school also includes fly tying – unfortunately there is no time to do this for the 3 day school.

Sadly, we must remind you that weather is a major factor in fishing and if faced with poor weather conditions we may have to change how we fish or the location. In very high water spinning and worming is possible and permitted. It is unlikely that we would not be able to fish at all, but it is possible. If so, we would have extra tuition and talks and organise more fly tying sessions etc. Once booked and paid for no refunds are given under any circumstances and we recommend that you purchase a suitable holiday insurance policy to cover you for any unseen eventualities.
