Live Off The Land School:
23rd - 26th April 2009

Thursday - Sunday: £650

We are delighted to announce a new school format for 2009 - the Live Off The Land School. Come and enjoy an introduction to foraging for wild food with Anthony Steel, who is joined by Fiona Houston and Xa Milne, authors of the book "Seaweed and Eat It".

The aim of the weekend is to live a local food experience: gather, prepare, cook and eat food foraged, hunted or grown on Kirkwood culminating in a Saturday night foraged and hunted dinner.

  • Forage for wild vegetables

  • Options available for fishing for trout or shooting rabbits and pigeons

  • Stay in homely cottages - usually you will share a cottage with other guests but you will have your own bedroom

  • Enjoy real, home-made food plus the food you can collect

  • All-inclusive: all accommodation, meals, tuition, equipment and materials all included in the price.

April is a great month for foraging, as everything is bursting into life after the winter months. It is possible to catch trout and find some game, but with all foraging and hunting, nothing is guaranteed!

Kirkwood is abundant with food, so using hands-on experience, talks, tuition and demos you will learn how to forage, hunt and cook "off the land".

Xa learned to cook with AA Gill and Fiona trained at the Cordon Blue cookery school.
Anthony Steel is a farmer, fisherman, shooter and carnivore who enjoys "living off the land" and has done so at Kirkwood all his life.

He set up Kirkwood's highly-successful holiday business over twenty years ago.

Guests must bring appropriate wet/cold weather gear and we will supply a kit list! As most of the activities are outdoors and, therefore, subject to the weather, we may have to change the itinerary. If, in the highly unlikely event, we have to cancel, guests will receive a full refund. Otherwise, once booked and paid, no refunds are given. We recommend that you purchase a suitable holiday insurance policy to cover your unforeseen eventualities.
