Trout Fishing

Brown Trout can be caught on the Annan and they can be specimen trout.  All the Annan trout are totally wild and in recent years we have experienced some very large trout – 4lbs, 5lbs and 6lbs are becoming common place.  They have been caught at over 9lbs.

The spring (March – May) is the best time for these cracking wild brownies.  They are found throughout the whole of the main river, from Kirkwood to Jardine Hall and beyond.  By the autumn, many have moved into smaller streams to spawn.  They are caught on dry and wet flies and often involve “stalking” as well as “matching the hatch.”

There are also trout lochs locally and a small man-made lochan, with stocked trout, at Kirkwood.  Lady’s Lochan is about half an acre and set in the middle of our woods – a very peaceful and pleasant spot.  Fly only allowed.  We stock this lochan occasionally with 20 or so fish, so it is catch and release unless we have agreed you can take one to eat.

You can book fishing elsewhere on the River Annan – can be found via FishAnnan.
